Charles Babbage (Dec. 26, 1791 - Oct. 18, 1871) KH FRS. English mathematician, inventor, and engineer. He is considered to be the father of the computer, with his Difference Engine, designed in the 1820s. Many of Babbage's drawings have been digitized and are available online.
