Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (Dec. 10, 1815 - Nov. 27, 1852), was an English mathematician and author. She is known for her work on Charles Babbage's analytical engine—a mechanical, general-purpose computer. She was the first to see that Babbage's computer could be used for applications other than calculation. Lovelace's notes contain what many consider to be the first computer program (image source: wikipedia.org).
