ENGL 1311 - Composition I: Other Resources

This guide identifies sources useful for completing assignments in Composition I.

For Additional Information

For additional information on resources and their reliability/lack of reliability, see the research guide Reliable/Reputable Resources.

Internet Resources

The Internet can provide good and useful information for academic projects, presentations, and assignments.  Official government pages (those ending in .gov) for cities, counties, states, and the federal government can provide up-to-date as well as historical information and statistics.  Other good information can be found on educational and commercial web pages.

There is also a lot of misinformation available on the Internet.  Use the checklist below to evaluate web pages.

  • If you have questions about Internet resources, check with your instructor.  Many have stringent guidelines regarding the use of web pages.

Unacceptable Resources

Some resources are considered unacceptable in a university environment:

  • Wikipedia - articles are not authored; anyone can create an account and make changes to entries.
  • General print encyclopedias - World Book; Encyclopedia Britannica.
  • Many Web pages.  Use the form at the bottom of this box to determine whether a Web page is reliable.
  • If you have questions about resources, check with your instructor.
