Introduction
The citations in this guide were created using these sources as references:
• MLA Handbook, 9th edition
• MLA web site
Since the 8th edition provides leeway when creating citations, there may be some disagreement with the citations in this guide. Audio
visual materials and Internet resources, in particular, can be subject to various interpretations. When in doubt, consult your instructor.
Creating Citations
Examine the source itself - book, journal article (PDF, HTML, print), CD, DVD, web site, web document, tweet, etc. for the information
needed to create a citation.
Do not rely upon the information provided by a database or a library catalog.
The MLA Style Center
The Modern Language Association has a web page,
The MLA Style Center
, that can answer questions about style. An
Ask the MLA
FAQ
is available
as well - it allows users to submit questions about MLA style.
