Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287 - c. 212 BC). Ancient Greek mathematician, engineer, physicist, astronomer, and inventor. Archimedes is considered the greatest mathematician of the ancient world, and one of its greatest scientists.

Archimedes' other innovations include deriving an approximation of pi, proving the law of the lever, and the design of compound pulleys, as well as war machines for the defense of his native Syracuse (Source for images: wikipedia.org).
