Libraries' Reusable Boxes: Other ways to get materials

The guide with all the boxes...

Find Materials at Other Libraries

You may find yourself needing a book or journal article that we do not have readily available to you. In these cases, you have options.

- Order journal articles and books using our interlibrary loan (ILLiad) system. Once you submit a request, we will find a library that has the item. When it arrives, we will send you an email. Journal articles arrive electronically, usually in a few days. Books must be picked up at Mabee Library.

You may visit other libraries such as UTSA or UT Health San Antonio to use their databases and materials on-site. Be sure to call the library in advance to ask about guest access.

You may obtain a TexShare card from the Reference Desk and use it to check out books from other libraries in Texas. To find which libraries have a particular item, use WorldCat.

How to Link Google Scholar to UIW

If you link Google Scholar to UIW, you'll be able to use the Google Scholar interface and find links into UIW Library research databases. There is very little functionality to the search other than the Google algorithm; the only limiter is by date. Google Scholar only indexes articles that *seem* scholarly so you will still be responsible for making certain that articles are indeed peer-reviewed and scholarly.

Off-Campus Access

  • UIW students, faculty, and staff have access to ALL electronic resources from off-campus.

  • When accessing materials via the UIW Libraries' site, you will be prompted to verify that you are a current UIW student, faculty, or staff member by signing in with your UIW username and password:

  • After signing in, you will have access to all UIW-only resources and other online content until your Web browser session is ended.

  • UIW Libraries online resources may be accessed after signing in to an on-campus computer or device connected to the UIW network without additional user verification.|

  • To get help, please contact the UIW Libraries Reference Desk at 210-829-3835, by email to reference@uiwtx.edu, or chat using the Have a Question? Ask Us! link on the lower right of UIW Libraries' pages.

WorldCat

Check in UIW's catalog NestSearch to find our materials first.

You might find that another library in San Antonio has the item and go check it out there with a TexShare card. You can also order the item using InterLibrary Loan, though you don't have to specify a library in that case.

WorldCat is the world's largest library catalog, helping you find library materials online. It allows you to search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world.

TexShare

A TexShare Card provides you with borrowing privileges from more than 500 participating libraries across the state.

If you’re a registered patron of a participating library, you may request a TexShare Card from your home library. You must be a patron in good standing and have demonstrated compliance with your library’s existing borrowing policies. Ask at the UIW Mabee Library Reference Desk for your TexShare card. You will present this card and your UIW student ID at the lending library.
