Open Access: @ UIW

Open Access is a relatively new idea in publishing but what is it really? This guide is designed to offer basic information so that the UIW community can make informed decisions.

Finding OA

Many researchers find open access materials using search engines like DuckDuckGo, Google, or Google Scholar.  Search for institutional repositories by the university name (or try different terms like university repository).  Search in our Athenaeum.  Search in known open access publisher sites.  Or, try using directories such as the Directory of Open Access Books or the Directory of Open Access Journals.

The Athenaeum

The Athenaeum, a service provided by the UIW Libraries, is an open access repository for research, scholarship and creative works by the UIW community in all formats and media. It increases the visibility of the creator’s work, maximizes the research impact, facilitates interdisciplinary research and provides regional and global communities with immediate and permanent access to the work.

UIW has two open access journals that are hosted within the repository:
