This guide identifies the resources available to help students use the three guides used most often at UIW: APA, MLA and Chicago/Turabian.

Style Manuals

A style manual is a handbook that identifies and explains the guidelines and rules used to format documents written in the academic environment.  The sections you will refer to most often will be those that describe how to cite the resources used in the creation of your paper and how to format the works cited page.

Most Common Style Manuals

At the University of the Incarnate Word, you will probably use all three of the major style manuals.  They are:

  • APA (American Psychological Association)
  • MLA (Modern Language Association)
  • Chicago/Turabian

Associated Press Style Manual

Journalism classes taught at UIW use the style manual published by the Associated Press.
