Narratives of COVID’s Impact

Making sure the stories and lessons of our experiences are not forgotten, the UIW Libraries would like to host your narratives about your experiences during COVID.  We will be able to share your stories with open access licensing and host them on the UIW Libraries' institutional repository.  Please read the guidelines for submission and click the form below to submit your narrative.  Your experiences are important and we would like to make sure they have a platform.

Narratives Viewed Through Health and Wellbeing During COVID

It has long been acknowledged that people’s health and well being involve more than just one’s physical health. There are dimensions of wellness that include emotional, physical, social, occupational, spiritual, and intellectual aspects. The significant impact of COVID on people’s lives has brought all these areas of health and wellness into sharp focus.

The UIW Libraries acknowledge this multifaceted nature of health and well being. The In Sickness and in Health in South Texas narratives collection offers a platform for people to relate stories of their experiences living with COVID and how it has affected their lives – both negatively and positively – across these different dimensions.

Categories for Narrative Submission

The different areas of wellness offer lenses through which to view the effect that living with COVID has had on people’s lives:

  • Emotional Wellness/Impact - The ability to understand ourselves and cope with the challenges life can bring. The ability to acknowledge and share feelings of anger, fear, sadness or stress; hope, love, joy and happiness in a productive manner.
  • Intellectual Wellness/Impact - The ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decisions, group interaction and community betterment. The desire to learn new concepts, improve skills and seek challenges in pursuit of lifelong learning.
  • Occupational Wellness/Impact - The ability to get personal fulfillment from our jobs or chosen career fields while still maintaining balance in our lives. Our desire to contribute in our careers to make a positive impact on the organizations we work in and to society as a whole.
  • Physical Wellness/Impact - The ability to maintain a healthy quality of life that allows us to get through our daily activities without undue fatigue or physical stress. The ability to recognize that our behaviors have a significant impact on our wellness and adopting healthful habits while avoiding destructive habits.
  • Social Wellness/Impact - The ability to relate to and connect with other people in our world. Our ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with family, friends and co-workers.
  • Spiritual Wellness/Impact - The ability to establish peace and harmony in our lives. The ability to develop congruency between values and actions and to realize a common purpose that binds creation together.
