You may not know it, but the UIW Libraries really want to know what you think! Share your thoughts; shape your libraries is not just a tag line. In the past, students and faculty' survey responses have led to improvements in services, in programs, in space and facilities, and helped library staff grow the libraries in desired directions.
The LibQual survey will be active between February 26 - March 10, 2024.
Students - you'll have an opportunity (upon your thoughtful completion of the survey) to enter your UIW e-mail for a chance at prizes like gift cards, t-shirts, sway bags and more.
Your voice is important. We're listening.

What is LibQUAL+®?
LibQUAL+® is a standardized web-based assessment tool that measures users’ expectations and perceptions of library services, library as a place and as a provider of information resources. The LibQual survey will be distributed to all students and faculty via their UIW e-mail from February 26 - March 10, 2024.
How long will it take?
It takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to respond. We are using the lite version of the LibQUAL+®, which asks fifteen questions, four demographic items and allows for comments about library services.
Why Participate?
The feedback from faculty and students will provide us with data and be used to improve UIW libraries. Survey feedback will help the library plan for the future and measure achievement toward our goals. It gives you the opportunity to influence the direction of UIW Libraries.
When Will the Survey Be Distributed?
Dates: February 26th – March 10th. Participants will receive an e-mail invitation with a link to the survey. One additional e-mail reminder will be sent out over the 2-week period. You can go to the link anytime in this period.
Are There Incentives for Participating?
Students who thoughtfully complete the survey can elect to have their name entered into a prize drawing. The drawings will occur in March when the survey closes. Sorry faculty – no prizes for you but we still want to know what you think.
Is the Survey Anonymous?
All responses are anonymous. There are no identifying links between the survey responses and the individual completing the form.
What If There Are Problems or Questions?
Send problems and questions to libqual@uiwtx.edu.
What You Can Do to Help?
First, complete the survey as soon as you get it in your e-mail. Spread the word about the importance of participating in the survey. Tell other UIW students and faculty to check their UIW e-mail.
LibQUAL is a web-based survey offered by the Association of Research Libraries that helps libraries assess and improve library services, change organizational culture, and market the library. The survey instrument measures library users' minimum, perceived, and desired levels of service quality across three dimensions: Affect of Service, Information Control, and Library as Place.
Since 2000, more than 1,340 libraries in 35 countries have participated in LibQUAL, including college and university, community college, health sciences, and academic law libraries. This growing community of participants and its extensive data set of more than one million completed surveys are rich resources for improving library services.
The goals of LibQUAL are to:
How will LibQual benefit UIW Libraries?
Library administrators have successfully used LibQUAL survey data to identify best practices, analyze deficits, and effectively allocate resources. Access to the aggregate data and reports of other LibQUAL participants allows us to compare our library's performance with that of peer institutions, and examine the practices of libraries evaluated highly by their users.
What are the elements of the LibQual survey?
The survey comprises 22 core questions, 5 outcomes questions, 3 general satisfaction questions, 3 library use questions, demographic questions (the number varies by institution), and a comments box.
